......makes for a dull artist ;-) Although, I must say that my work never really seems like work and almost always seems like I get paid to play :-)
But with that being said, I do take off to "play" quite often. I feel like it inspires and rejuvenates me and allows me to come back to the easel refreshed and inspired ! And what better reason to take off to play than a waterfall condo in the cool North Carolina mountains with my BFF?!?
We spent a couple of days hiking to nearby waterfalls.....our choices were MANY! According to my hiking bible, North Carolina Waterfalls A Hiking and Photography Guide by Kevin Adams, "More waterfalls occur within a 15-mile radius of Lake Toxaway than in any equal-sized area of the state and probably the East." WOW! I love this book and I use it every time we hike in NC. I also use it as a journal of sorts to record when and with whom I hiked specific areas and what my thoughts were on the trail and the waterfalls. I love going back to read about my past adventures! My family owns a mountain home just outside of Cashiers,NC so we get lots of hiking hours logged!!
We also spent some quality aquatic time....a requirement in my book.......on Sapphire Lake. We got in lots of kayak and SUP time with pups in tow !
And because time on a hiking trail and paddling a quiet lake don't get your heart pumping quite hard enough, we trekked down to Saluda, NC to tap into our inner thrill seeker :-0
The Gorge Zip Line is touted as America's steepest & fastest zip line with 11 lines covering 1.25 miles over 14,000 acres of protected forest and the amazing Green River Gorge. It descends (quickly, I might add) 1100' vertical feet and contains a sky suspension bridge and 3 free fall rappels. I can tell you the adrenaline was flowing fast & furious!!!
After all that heart-racing adventure, we needed a little down-time! We spent the day in Asheville luxuriating at the Grove Park Inn Spa. OH MY! And that's an understatement! This $44 million, 40,000 square foot, subterranean oasis was named #13 of the world's best hotel spas by Travel & Leisure Magazine....and they weren't kidding !! You really must experience it for yourself because I don't have the vocabulary to adequately describe it ;-)
Then it was a quick trip down the street to the Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne Bar. I always try to stop in here on my trips to Asheville because, well, who can resist "....two of earth's finest pleasures, books and wine, side by side." ??? And while we did not have the pups with us on this day, Battery Park is pup friendly! Just one more reason to LOVE them :-)
and FINALLY....How do girls put the finishing touch on a perfectly spent day??? DUH!! Shoe shopping!!! At Asheville's two-story shoe store, Tops For Shoes.
